Linear Calendar View - i.e. quarterly or annual

Wondering if anyone has worked on a linear style view to display long running dated events that may run for multiple days or weeks at a time over a lengthy period such as 3, 6 or even 12 months where the normal month grid view would not be very useful. I'm looking for approaches to accomplish this with the calendar + date + views modules.

Suggestions?
