Is there any affordable webhost that is perfect for Drupal?

  • Godaddy stinks, because I can't lock tables in MySQL..
  • And I could also wish that php.ini would be available
  • Fully featured PHPmyAdmin
  • Several MySQL databases
  • Zend Optimizer
  • 4000+ storage
  • Fast and reliable host
  • Good and helpfull support

Well, that is only some of the features i would requaire.. So please just tell me what hosts you guys are using and post a link, so i could test your servers respondtime.

Iam considering to make my very own server. But i wanna know if there is a another way out of this godaddy-trouble...

Cheers!

modwest has all these. Not the cheapest, yes. But you get what you paid for -- the typical example is that support helped me with a rewrite rule.

Site5 web hosting is a great value, feature rich, has a Drupal autoinstaller, and FANTASTIC support! Check them out. I've used them for years, experimenting with other hosts, but never have been convinced to switch.

Site5 is good, however sometimes stuff just stops working mysteriously.

You can also check out the one below. Their lowest level starts at 4800MB and it increases weekly at no charge with unlimited mysql databases, domains hosted, subdomains, etc.. Check it out for yourself and see if it's right for you.

I've had great luck with JaguarPC.com

-php.ini only with VPS account

-speed is okay but not blazing on the cheap accounts, but you can get a fairly reasoanble "semi-dedicated" (max 10 accounts per server or something like that).

Still, if you can get by with just .htaccess, the price just can't be beat for what you get IMO.

Original post was several years ago, however i'm wondering what people are using now? I am currently with DreamHost and while I've been happy for some time, slowness has become an issue (insane page execution times, at least on the server my domains are living on).

I have requested a VPS with DreamHost, yet may still move somewhere else if there are any good suggestions out there...

I ended up going with Slicehost, been happy with them for about 5 months now. I should note that they were recently acquired by RackSpace, they state that "things will only get better"...

In this thread there was a recommendation for Jaguar PC in 2005. Back then I would have recommended them also. Now? Absolutely not. A sales rep actually told me they've spent all of their money on advertising so their support has suffered. This past year has been painful, but I haven't switched because I've been with them since 2001. I no longer have a choice, though, and am now looking for a reliable web host with, at a minimum, the support it claims to have.
