Issue Summary
"The selected file D:\xampp\tmp\xxwhatever.tmp could not be uploaded, because the destination is not properly configured" - is the error I get after attempting select by browse, multiple select - Java script seems to work - progress bar & all - but no thumbnails below selection window afterwards & error msg @ refresh
any clues?

I had the same problem. I changed the Temporary directory to /tmp in Administer > Site Configuration > File System and that solved it. I had files/temp as the Temporary directory previously; appears this module defaults to /tmp as the Temporary directory.

I believe that bramilo's comment in #1 is the right answer. You need to configure your temporary directory properly.
See if you can upload an image using the normal interface and that will help break the problem apart into it's component pieces.
