What is the best freeware editor for the exported XML file?

Project:Automated Web Translation Workflow

Priority:normal

Issue Summary

I would be happy to write up a guide for setting up a translation project in a freeware editor if someone would give me a nudge in the right direction of the best freeware CAT solution for editing the XML file that is exported by AWTW.

So far I've gotten the furthest with the free version of MemoQ ( http://en.kilgray.com/?q=node/products/memoq/memoq4free ), actually able to export out of AWTW, edit in MemoQ and then import back into AWTW. Most of the other free CAT software packages seem a bit more feature rich, but with a higher learning curve. I suspect that there may be certain filters or view settings that may assist in the translation task and setting up Translation Memory (TM) also seems like a time saving feature worth pursuing.

Someone more familiar with this software or even just general CAT concepts could probably figure this out much quicker than a neophyte like me. Respond to this thread or contact me directly if you'd like to help. As I said, I will compile my findings into a guide if I conclude I have found a viable, easy-to-use freeware solution for translating AWTW's export file.

Cheers

Hi Nathan,

You should try the Okapi Framework if you want to translate arbitrary XML files. It's been developed by Yves Savourel, author of the book XML Internationalization and Localization and contributor to many of the translation related XML standards.

The Opentag website also has a list of tools.
