Hi,

We are planning to launch a Social Networking website using drupal later this year. We initially plan to use a single server but want to be able to upgrade as and when our website grows.

I am having trouble estimating costs in my business plan as I cannot find any estimates for how many users a single server running drupal could cope with, so at which point we would need to grow. I understand that each drupal setup will be different so I am planning to estimate assuming that we have a very demanding drupal setup.

Could someone please help me work out how to do this or give a brief idea of how many users a single but powerful server could handle? I would then be interested in how this changes when using multiple servers?

Please help!
Thanks,
Joe

it is around 500-1k depends on how demanding your drupal is, CPU and RAM.

Thanks for that. Is that concurrent users I take it?

For how many users is that estimate (i.e. 500-1k)?
Is that in $?

Thanks a lot

You should be looking at getting a cloud hosting provider instead of juggling around the idea of a dedicated server. It will allow you to grow automatically, without having to worry about how much power a single server could provide for you. The best part is, it's always resource usage based, so you pay only what you use.

Might be better off for you to run on that type of platform for a site that you believe is going to be very successful.

Best of luck!
