this doesn't really solve the problem (for me, at least), as users don't get to see the "content management" > "Image galleries" link.
users don't get permission to manage all content, of course.
A workaround with taxonomy delegate seems a solution, but is not that elegant as one has to explain taxonomies on the whole, whereas the abovementioned link points to a rather self-explaining page (easier, less change to get a messed-up site etc etc)

joachim commentedGive your users the rather weirdly named permission 'administer images'. That lets them create, edit, and delete galleries.
