Tab position

I'm a noob to php, but I'm wondering if it would be difficult to give administrators an option of where to place the tabs. The 6.x-2.0-rc2 only provides top-positioned tabs. I was hoping to either place them below or to the left of the content. If it is too much of a problem, I'll probably live with it until such a time as I can hack the module. But I thought it might make the module a bit more robust. As it is, it has saved me a great deal of time!
