Display one node in full, then teasers, and display author name

I know there are some snippets out there that do this, but Taxonomy Block would be really useful in conjunction with front_page if:

1) The block would return the author name along with the title of a node; and,
2) The block allowed the option to return node titles w/ teasers, plus the titles of X number of nodes (w authors) recently submitted for that taxonomy term.
