Will the Node Import module support, import new as well as update.. I want to routinely import
data from another system where the CSV file may have altered as well as new records...

Yes. I am very interested in this too. All the documentation talks about is "new imports" so I am assuming this is not possible. But if it could, it would be a great asset to store with many products. I want to be able to populate new CCK fields added to product content type and also update older ones.

There are a couple of different issues about this feature request already, John Gentilin's code at #422282: Update existing nodes on import appears to be the most recent at this point, but there are examples scattered in other issues as well - try searching the issue queue for 'update' or 'overwrite'
