random display

I have views rotator working with a block view that is set to global random for the sort.
the view field is set to display imagefield content from nodes of a certain content type.
the preview for the view itself displays the images in a random order every time, exactly as would be expected.
the issue arises when the block is displayed on the homepage, the rotation is anything but random.
it seems to group all the images that are in the same node.
plus refreshing the page doesn't seem to give me a new random display order in the rotation.
is there a setting somewhere that i am missing?

as usual after i open an issue, it starts to work fine.
i don't know what i changed, but the random seems to be working now.
i'm going to assume it was a cache issue.
