I've tried installing this module, but it results in my admin/build/modules page going blank (blank white page with nothing shown). I don't believe it is a memory issue since I have increased the memory available to drupal. Is there the chance that another module might be conflicting with the associated_nodes module? Any suggestions where I should start looking for problems?

There are no known incompatibilities...
Have you an error logged in admin/reports/dblog that could be linked to associated_nodes ?
Or maybe you can look in your apache error logs...
