I can't figure out how to add files in theme editor. Does this exist in 6.x version?

Do you see a collapsed fieldset for "Add A New File"? If not check your permissions and ensure that you have the "Add new files to themes" permission. If you have both of those things and are still not able to add files ensure you have writeable permissions to the theme directory you are trying to add files to.

That reminds me that I need to add a check on the add file form to see if the directory is writeable.

Hmm seems to be there now. I swear I didn't see it before. At least I reminded you to check to see if the directory was writable.

This may have been due to the bug in #656412: Unable to add new files unless logged in as Admin.
