I'm logged in as user 1, imce is enabled, imce_wysiwyg installed. I've checked the IMCE button on the wysiwyg settings for my input format. However there is no IMCE button when I edit a node.
Any hints as to how I can troubleshoot this? Thanks.

sunYou need Wysiwyg API 2.x.

Dave Cohen commentedI'm using CVS HEAD of wysiwyg, which as far as can tell is 2.x. There is no DRUPAL-6--2 branch. Do I have it wrong? Thanks.

sunIn which editor does this happen?
Oh, and did you enable the "Image" button? IMCE does not provide a button on its own, it just serves as file browser/uploader and can be invoked by clicking on the "browse" button of some plugins (like the editor's own Image button).

Dave Cohen commentedSorry for the delay...
Really? The old IMCE placed its own links beneath the textarea. If what you say is true, IMCE no longer supports plaintext textareas? Only wysiwyg? That would be sad. At any rate I don't see any upload buttons in the FCKeditor's image popup. I see no signs of IMCE working anywhere.

Dave Cohen commentedAhah! I had to type "edit-body" in the right place on admin/settings/imce/profiles. Tricky. Thanks and sorry to waste your time.
