I checked under "My Account" and I can't find a link to this unless I go to the calendar.

That normal drupal behaviour, you go to the node you want to edit and hit the edit tab.
You could try installing the workspace module

I don't think you understand my question. I don't want the owner of the event to have to find the node in order to edit it. I want a tab or link like the classified ads tab that list all classified ads posted by a user with a link to edit it.

That is why I suggested the workspace module, it does exactly that.

Event for Drupal 8 is unrelated to older versions. If an issue similar to this one exists, please open a new issue with the 8.x branch.
