Paging not working

I was trying to get automatic paging working, but no luck with this module. There's no effect on my articles with automatic paging enabled. I tried adding a

, and looking for that code in the article source, but that code doesn't appear so the filter appears to be stripping the pagebreak code without adding the pagination.
