It would be great if I could setup actions based on a change in status.

You can.

Use the triggerunlock module to access any action. Trigger integration already exists.

I don't know, it's unrelated to FBSS. I think you just install the module and it works. I know there are tutorials on using Triggers and Actions if that's what you mean--just browse through the d.o documentation.
