Hello,
The site's theme is a slight modification of the Bluemarine-theme. I would like feedback and suggestions for the design / navigation.
Thanks,

Looks beautiful
It looks great -- simple and elegant. I loved the photography, too! I just set my wallpaper to reflection43.jpg.

Thank you for the nice comments.
I bought a Nikon D70s kit this summer, before that I used a F50, so things are a lot more fun now.

I have the D70... its great... I'm sure the D70s is even better :)
Whats your lens for your macro photography?
My overall favourite lens is the f1.4 50mm!

So far I only have the 18-70mm kit lens, so I have to do a bit of cropping for my macros.
thought i would let you know
thought i would let you know you can download a firmware update for the D70 that makes it the same as the D70s
Looks great
Looks like a very good start. I also like your macros and made one of them my walpaper (are you planning to make more of them available for this?). An improvement for wallpapers may be having a taxonomy vocabulary for different screen resolutions and tagging the wallpaper images with these. That way a user can see all the wallpapers available for a particular resolution.
I'm working on more
I'm working on more wallpapers, so stay tuned. I'll definitely consider making different tags according to wallpaper size.

i really like your gallery
i really like your gallery setup...... you mind sharing how you did it? i assume views, added a thumbnail with imagecache to show the categories? then just have a "archives" setup showing each image? im really looking to do something like you have and have tried using the gallery2 module, but it just come out too nice :)
You're right I use Views,
You're right I use Views, Views Bonus Pack, Imagecache, CCK, and Imagefield for my galleries.
I've to admit that the Galleries-pages ( e.g. http://www.lostmonkey.dk/galleries ) is actually a bit of an ugly construction not using anything fancy like imagecache. I plan to do something about it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
But other than that, all the images are assigned to one or more categories, and the overview-pages (e.g. http://www.lostmonkey.dk/fauna/insects ) are views selecting for these categories (terms).
I'm still trying to figure out how to add some 'next-previous'-navigation when viewing each image-node, but haven't had any success yet.
Mikkel
You can add next previews
You can add next previews with custom pager module, its easy to add as you use views, you just select your views and choose where to add above, below or in block

Actually I have already
Actually I have already tried that module, but I never got it to work the way I wanted ( http://drupal.org/node/152067 ). The main problem was using multiple terms for each node, it appeared to me that there was no way of only navigating within a specific term.
The site looks good, there
The site looks good, there is something to be said for simple and elegant pages. I also like the changing title graphic per page, I take it this is a custom php script?
I did have one other question, which relates to your weblinks use. How have you made the actual links to other websites clickable from the title?
It seems in my short (2 days) playing with weblinks, clicking on the title results in going to the node even if the body is empty.
Thanks
Yes the header graphic is a
Yes the header graphic is a custom script.
Regarding weblinks .. I have to admit I don't remember if I changed anything to make the titles link out. But I see that in 'admin/settings/weblinks' I have set 'Links lead URL or to Web Link node:' and 'Block links lead URL or to Web Link node:' to 'URL' and I guess that must be it ... ?

I guess I could make it bigger, but I don't want it to distract from the image. Anyway the resolution of the images are too small for good prints, so I'm not too worried about unauthorized use.

hi!
The site has been really designed well and the photographs are amazing :-)
I like the contact page too. How did you do that?

Hi and thanks.
I didn't do anything special to create the contact page, it is the default option that is included with Drupal. Except I did add the Captcha module to try to prevent spam.

Excellent site with gorgeous
Excellent site with gorgeous photos. I am currently trying to make such a site with Drupal 6 using the same setup as you however views bonus pack is not for d6 yet.
Do you have any idea how to set such a thing up with d6?
No sorry I don't .. I
No sorry I don't .. I haven't looked into moving to d6 yet, but I would be interested to know what you find out.
5 years later!
It's been more than five years since my original post asking for feedback, and the site has been through several changes during those years.
The basic setup is still the same. Now running on Drupal 6, the gallery is still based on Views, Imagecache, CCK, and Imagefield.
At some point I switched to the Zen theme (I think during the update to 6), and so far it's working fine, although there has been a lot of trail and error developing the current sub-theme.
I have still not decided when or if I will upgrade the site to Drupal 7. At the moment the site does everything I want, and I don' t really see a need to upgrade. Plus I'm not sure all my contributed modules are 7-ready.
I would still like feedback and suggestions should you have any: www.lostmonkey.dk
Thanks,
Mikkel

I absolutely love it-- especially the understated color scheme. It's a clean attractive presentation that lets the photography be the star.
Well done!

I'm so glad you have returned
I'm so glad you have returned for more feedback, as I would love to hear more about how you made this site. It is a beautiful example of drupal backend for image display.
I realize it may be a lot to ask, but could you walk us through what modules do what and how they are interacting?
Would you be open to sharing the source for others to learn from? I have had a tough time getting classy image display using drupal, and yours is at the top in your modern and minimal layout, especially using text overlays. Even messy code can teach the basics of how modules can interact with each other.
Great, great work!
Well, I can certainly try to
Well, I can certainly try to outline a little bit about of the modules I rely on for the site. I have only been using the modules freely avaiable here at drupal.org. I have of course put a lot of time into learning how to use and set up the modules, but if you already know your way around drupal, you should been able to do a similar gallery site fairly easily.
Main modules used: Views, Imagecache, CCK, and Imagefield.
I use Views for displaying the majority of the site's contents, and most importantly for all the gallery pages (terms). Also I use CCK for almost all my content (with Imagefield for the content containing images). To display the title of the images on top of the thumbnails and for the watermarks, I use an overlay action in the Imagecache_actions module.
The main overview page for the galleries (http://www.lostmonkey.dk/galleries) is made using Panels, and each gallery-image on this page is actually rendered by a view. What this does is to keep this main page dynamic by randomly selecting an image to represent the subsection (Animals, Plants, etc.). In addition, the image representing the 'Latest Images' will always show the most recently uploaded image.
My main goal for the site (besides looking awesome) has been to create a setup that will take care of everyting automatically, except uploading the image. Now when I create a new image-node, all the nessary thumbnails are created and added in the appropriate places automatically, and a watermark is added to the image.
There are probably more details needed in order to replicating the site exactly, but this should get you going. If you are looking for a more detailed explanation on how to use the individual modules, I have to ask you to look elsewhere, but I am sure you will find the information you need here at drupal.org, I did :)
This old videocast is a walkthrough of a gallery setup very similar to mine.

As far as creating the minimal layout, I think that has mostly been down to making some clear decistions about what content to include and what to leave out. My theme is a subtheme of Zen, which (if my memory serves me right) I have made only using css-modifications.
Good luck!
