What is the future of this module? It is a great replacement for core's standard upload module.
I've read in multiple places that this module should become a cck module. There is already a cck swfupload module: image fupload ( http://drupal.org/project/image_fupload ) so, there is no need to reinvent the wheel at this point.
I haven't found another module which can do multiple uploads for core attachments. Some modules depend on attachments, like galleria ( http://drupal.org/project/galleria )
These 2 modules toghether make a fast and beautiful gallery team. Please stay with the core upload module!

I agree with you we shouldn't reinvent the wheel twice. I see overlapping in what we're planning to build for CCK and image_field (file_field as well). However imagefield allows you to only upload images and only one at a time. File_field is similar.

Main reason for moving swfupload to CCK is because the current way of configuring the upload settings per node type is, besides from being not flexible, a complete disaster. Another motivition is the knowledge we'll going to have fields in core. Lastly I want to create more widgets for upliading files.

I'll get in touch with the developpers of file_field and image_field to get their opinion on this.
