These instructions will work for 4.6. Also note that you'll lose any content of the type you delete.
1. Goto Administer --> Content --> Content types
2. Next to the content type you wish to delete, click "edit content type"
3. At the bottom, next to the submit button, is a delete button... Click "delete"
4. You'll be asked to confirm ... click "delete" on the confirmation screen
