Oh pretty please with a cherry on top...
I have been waiting for this one!
I will contribute countless hours testing and even coding as long as you say its do-able.
I dont know how long it will take for CS to reach 4.7...
I know there are many 4.6 sites that could really use this! it means cpanel and drupal provide web based email forums! no hard install required...(well.. i guess there is still that mysql plugin for mailman... but then.. we cant have it all can we?... :)

ps: how about integrating with og_forum so that the private group forum that og_forum automatically creates is automatically given a mlist too?

Backporting isn't my priority right now, but I'd like to get it done. I suspect all that would need to change is the Forms bit; if anyone wants to take on this task, feel free.

This is not exactly the same thing but it does work on 4.6 and may be useful to you.
The module allows the administrator to configure multiple Mailman mailing lists on their website and then allow users to sign up for these lists via the website. The module allows various types of subscriptions (i.e. all mail, digest only or no mail). The module keeps track of each subscription and assigns a unique password to each so that the user can then change their settings from within the site withou further confirmation.
