Automatic cross referenced nodes in fields?

Hi,

Is there a way to automatically cross reference nodes using fields? Like i have a content type for authors and another for publications, with node reference fields (using CCK) for authors in publications and vice versa. When I fill for instance the author field in a publication content, i'd like the publication field in the corresponding author content to be filled automatically. Is there a way to do that?
