You need the HEAD version of drush, and then the version of drush_extras that corresponds to your Drupal version.

HEAD is pretty useless since you can't pm install.

And drush_extras is going to be merged into drush core in the near future, so if you happened to be installing a new drupal 6 site today (like I am), there basically is no usable drush module available.

... which means that in the meantime you can use some old copy of drush ... will post one if needed

I'm still using the 6.x-1.2 version until this gets sorted and it's working fine. You can still get it from the cvs repository or just use the 6.x-1.x-dev release which is only a few days newer and still available from the releases page.
