I have learned how to disable the notification to new forum posts? Is there a way to do the same when I need to update a forum comment?

I understand. If I was to disable the Subscriptions module before posting the edited comment, then ran cron manually and then re-enabled Subscriptions, will this have worked? will it haved had any problematic side effects (other than not working for any user that was trying to send a notification at the same time as me)?

Yes, that'll work (you don't need to run cron manually), but it's a pain to do...

Over the long run it might be easier to learn PHP and develop and post a patch that implements a checkbox, as for nodes. :-)
