More information about text formats loses text

ok, so i create a new page / article, i spend 20 mins typing in the text, then it comes to selecting the input format, and i'm not sure. so i press "More information about text formats"...and i'm redirected to a page explaining about them. oh. i've just lost all my text. thanks a lot drupal.
it should open a new window to prevent this, or have some sort of ajax'y type div pulling in content to prevent this. this is a bug imo, not just a usability issue!
