I'm currently working with Drupal (using the Civicspace distribution) on a couple of projects aimed at developing online communities within an international social/business movement. As a result of this activity I'm now in discussion with the relevant global NGO about how they might consider migrating/evolving their online presence from a large and complex static site (built with Dreamweaver), to a content management system.

Given the complexities of their situation, and my albeit limited knowledge of Drupal, I'm inclined to recommend to this client that they go with Drupal as their platform of choice. However, as a relative newcomer myself to Drupal. I'd like to work with someone who is far more skilled and experienced in setting up Drupal-based sites.

Interested? Then read on...

I'm meeting with representatives from the NGO in the next couple of weeks, with a follow-up session planned soon after at their European HQ. In order to move the project forward with confidence I'd like to identify and make an agreement with a skilled Drupal consultant, so that I can confidently move forward with these negotiations, safe in the knowledge that I can depend on the consultant's expertise to guide me (and my client) towards a cost effective solution that will meet their needs and expectations.

I guess the person I'm looking for will fit the following broad description:

  • Strong track record of designing and implementing successful Drupal sites.
  • Based in Europe, and an English speaker.
  • Excellent communications skills - written and spoken (can write an effective proposal, and can deliver a strong presentation).
  • Interested in the social economy.

If this sounds like you, then I'm keen to hear from you. I'd like to read your CV, check out some of the sites that you have developed, find out how you like to work, and what you charge for your time. In return I'm able to provide a little more information about the potential of this project (mt sense is that it is a significant project involving potentially a dozen or more sites linked together to create a global network supporting many tens of thousands of potential users).

In terms of timing, at present my sense is that the majority of 2006 will be spent in developing a detailed brief, an agreed project specification and action plan, for delivery/implementation starting late 2006/early 2007. Of course, the outcome of the meetings in the coming weeks may change that outlook. As regards selecting a suitable Drupal consultant I'd like to start as soon as possible (hence this posting), and ideally have a provider in place by February.

My name is Graham Mitchell, and I'm the UK marketing/communications manager for the relevant trade body. You can contact me at graham.mitchell@phonecoop.coop

Try the Drupal services page for some consultants, including ourselves at leafish.

This must be one hell of a complex project if you expect it to need almost a year of planning!

I doubt very much that we will take a full year to do the work, but with many other priorities pressing above and beyond the web platform, getting a plan finalised, agreed and funded will take some time.
