Community site 'Status' field module?

Hey all,
I am looking for a good status update field/block module for a community driven site we are working with. It would be similar to the facebook "what's on your mind" status field. This would be for our internal site between it's many users. I have seen some modules that have the box but their main function is to send the status updates out to other community sites like Facebook. We want our status updates to be visible on our site, with the ability to have comments left after the initial status update. Thanks for any module recommendations!

Note that the first module is "facebook style statuses" and does NOT have anything to do with Facebook. The second module provides the "feed" view and supports comments.

You can also add http://drupal.org/project/flag, which can be used to flag users as friends. If you want your "friending" to work exactly like Facebook, including the approval cycle, add http://drupal.org/project/flag_friend to the stack.
