so if the body in the {node} table is empty, the printable view of the book only has titles for the nodes, even if there is content when you look at the nodes on the website.

I suspect node_view() would generate all kinds of crap we don't really want. But on the other hand, it seems like there are some nodes that aren't properly printed in all cases (e.g., PHP pages). Needs more investigation...
