The module uses many pictures. I think you need try using sprite.

Interestling example, im thinking to add more way for render the links or alterate the normal steps, this can be the matter for an hook_alter_services() that add classes and modify names adding span tag.
Plus... sprite and css must be generated physically in the files folder as garland theme do... i need work on it a bit more...
