CCK Link URL and Trim Text option in Views

See http://drupal.org/node/426704 for Merlin's reply. This project wasn't available when I tried to transfer the ticket over, so i am recreating it.

When I try to trim the text length of a CCK URL field (in Views), it trims the text of the full markup rather than just the title which is displayed.

Is it possible to just trim the displayed portion of the returned text rather than the full markup? I don't care how long the link is, but I do need to control how many characters in the node title are displayed an hot-linked.

Based on the response in the thread above, it may be an api integration issue.

Can anyone confirm if this should be working, or if it just isn't there?
