This question probably gets asked quite often, but I've not seen it. Is there a projected release schedule for 4.7?

its ready when its ready, thats the only good answer you will get. my quess -judging from the amount of bugs still open- that the current beta2 will be replace within one week with a beta3. depending on the number of bigs, there might be a beta4. I think that within 6 or 7 weeks 4.7 will ship.

But once again, the only correct answer is, it is done when its done.

Thanks bertb.

Coming from the Joomla/Mambo community (but having gotten frustrated by some the things that were lacking, but are present in Drupal), I am used to the development team having published roadmaps and long-term planning schedules.

Is this something that Drupal has, but I've missed?

, as it was just a question, a good one, and it was politely phrased. It would be a strange kind of community where only seasoned contributors were allowed to ask progress questions (pointless, too, as they tend to know the answers already).

I understand that having milestones and deadlines is not natural to organic communities; perhaps, the resultant product is better off without the extra pressure. But having a page in the Handbooks dealing with rough plans for the rollout (for example: 1st quarter 2005: we hope to roll out 4.7; right after that: development for 4.8 begins, ...) would be helpful.

I have another question along the same "where are we going?" lines -- does anyone have an idea on how long the 4.5 branch is going to be supported? One reason to still use 4.5 is that PHP 4.3.2 is the latest build available for the still-supported RedHat 3, meaning that some server owners will stick with what works until who knows when.

while mambo is developed by a team drupal is community-driven, so since everyone who wants is developing drupal, who am i to judge when something is going to be finished?
