I want to give a short presentation to my sailing club to entice members to contribute news to a drupal site I am setting up for the purpose. This material has traditionally been sent to members through the mail. They are a very passive bunch. Not one of them would carry through with an ordinary drupal registration. If I can't hook them the first time I will lose their interest forever.

To make registration painless, I would like to distribute printed cards containing magic passwords that upon login or registration would automatically create an account under the chosen username with such editorial privileges as I have determined beforehand, and have the account instantly available.

Does anyone know if such a facility is already available in drupal? Would it be easy to implement if not currently available. I welcome suggestions.

I really like this idea. It would be an excellent feature for enticing people to join your comminity. If you could give them a magic password that generated a username for them, even better. So in theory, it works in reverse.

I've heard logintobagan is the way to go with this though. May want to look into that.
