Hi Ron and all others,
I've got a question concerning the module. Under "authors", all authors of a publication are listed. In order to have a comfortable search function, I want to use the the inbuilt /biblio/filter link. The problem now is that all the authors of a publication are listed, even the ones not working in the company. What would be great now would be a feature that would make it possible to blank out some authors for the search function, i.e. only to have the authors that really are working in the company and not other contributors. Did I overlook this function? Sorry, I'm still not 100% familiar with this great, extensive module.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Chris

rjerome commentedHi Chris,
No you didn't miss anything, I guess the issue there is how would you identify only the authors working in the "Company" in question?
Ron.

Glowy commentedHey Ron!
Thanks for the quick answer - Yes, that's exactly my question :) I want to identify those authors working in the company and then apply the filter just to them.

rjerome commentedThere is an "affiliation" field associated with each author, so if that was populated, then I suppose it could be used to filter the authors. Now if you have a lot of authors, it might be quite a bore to populate that field :-(
You will see that field if you go the the authors page and click on one of the [edit] links.
If you have a large number of authors to associate with the same organization, I'm sure we could find some way to automate the process.

Glowy commentedRight, this sounds like a solution! I've got not too many authors in the company, but, how do I enable this affiliation-filed in the filter?
rjerome commentedWell, that bit of the solution doesn't exist yet :-) but now that I know what your after, I'll see what can be done.

Glowy commentedOh, that would be so fantastic - Thanks a lot, Ron! It's just unbelievable what a support for the module there is!

rjerome commentedI guess one last question is.. Is this something you want all users to be able to access (i.e. an option on the filter page) or do you want the admin to set this and the users will basically not have any knowledge of the fact that the author list has been filtered?
Ron.
Glowy commentedAh, in our case it's a global admin setting, I guess. The filtering is for the anonymous users accessing the website. They should only be able to filter the publishers in the company and not the ~200 other authors. So filtering should always be a compulsory "company authors" + other, optional filtering options as already implemented.

savitha commentedis there is a solution for filtering the biblio lists using the author's affliation?
rjerome commentedNot yet, I must admit that this issue fell of the radar screen. I did run into this same issue recently on a site I did where there were a few thousand authors listed, but only a few hundred actually worked for the organization, so I know where you are coming from.
I'll see what can be done, but don't be afraid to bump this up to the top of the list again if it goes idle for too long.

glebaron commentedI would love to see this feature. We have a lot of authors in our database but only a relatively small number are actually affiliated with the department.
