Can NAT Nodes and Terms have different titles?

I use NAT to create "Taxonomy Nodes" so terms in certain vocabularies can have full content pages an not just a name/description. It works great. I create a node, and a matching term is created. I can relate the NAT node to non-NAT nodes with the NAT term in them. Love it.
Well, one of my helpers went and changed a node title on a NAT node, because he needed to make something more headline-y, and the once-pithy NAT term name was updated as well. Now the taxonomy term name is long as hell and looks like crud in its term links.
The link between the node and terms are strictly using a "join" table, so the titles don't _have_ to be in sync. Sure, when you create a NAT node, you want the term to take its title, but if I change the node title, I'd only like it to change if I do it manually.
How do I go about turning off this title-syncing after I have create both my node and term? Would make a great setting, to turn off title-sync per vocabulary.
