I've never done any work with Views 1.x ; so I really can't help you. You should check how different Views 1.x and 2.x are -- if they're very different it might be easier to do a rewrite than a backport.

Let me know when you have a working D5 version, and I'll give you CVS access so you can commit it.

i am also interested in a drupal 5 version of views_or. did you find a solution??
i am not a coder, so i am unable to fix it by myself.

The plug-in architectures for View 1 and Views 2 are completely different, so a port is not possible.
