There was some work done to keep the function compatible with PHP4. This needs to be removed, given PHP4 is no longer officially supported.

Sigh. Any idea what it was that was done to make it compatible with PHP 4 that was removed? I need it to work with PHP4 (no, I can't do anything about that right now.)

Edited to say: never mind, took the plunge and moved from husband's free hosting to better setup.
