I setup three forums under the Container "Root"
The default menu for Forums once enabled linked to /forum
As soon as the first person posted to the one of three forums, the /forum link showed only that one post and there is no way to navigate to any of the forums. Help!

Okay so now I think I know what happened and am kinda surprised it's allowed.

A registered user posted to the forums, this showed up on the homepage due to the "promoted to the homepage" option which we can't figure out how to disable.

So the site manager decided to "move" the post from the homepage to the forums, and set the path to /forum using URL Alias field (shes an author with permissions to manipulate URLs)

So now any request for "forum" delivers one single post with no way to get to the forums.

So... I tried deleting the post. Now I have 13 "forums" menus in the menu manager.

How was someone allowed to over write a Forum post over the main forum link?

How can I wipe everything and start from scratch?

This is one of the hardest items to keep straight as the setup is a bit confusing. But ...

Administer (side menu)
Content (side menu)
Configure (tab)
Content Types (sub-tab)
Choose the type of content (forum, story etc)

and then set your preferences.

Note this is NOT the same as Choosing the Content Types item in the side menu (which is a link to creating flexinodes).

As for starting over you can just reinstall the database and it will wipe everything.

Thanks, excellent post and link. That will help me prevent future issues. Too much stuff to keep in mind for a newbie to Drup. some stuff is in settings, some in Themes, some here some there... hard to keep track of and hard to search for if you don't the proper verbiage.

Now the fallout... If I renable the "Forums" module i instantly get 8 Forums links in the Admin Menu page, if I enable one of them I get about 5 more links in the Menus page AND they all show up on the main website. Yipes!

I cannot delete the database as we have way too much content going but if there's a way to "rebuild" the forums that would work as we just made them live today as part of our go slowly program off turning on features one a week or so (boy that went well!)
I have backed up the entire site database and created a backup of all files, just in case :)

I was able to remove all the duplicate menus by enabling "Forums" menu. Then clicking "reset" one at a time. On about the tenth one I had to re-enable and new ones showed up which I reset, enabled etc untill all the way down to one "forums" link.

... just in case anyone ends up in this strange place :)
