i am unable to see formatting options (indent, bold, italics, insert image, hyperlink, etc) in my body input box in forums, or in any of my administration input boxes for that matter... is there a module for this?

The idea in a plain Drupal install - and also, for example, on this website - is that you have a minimum idea about html tags to create emphasized or strong pieces of text. It's not difficult to type, and you'll actually get better control about the content and how it is displayed.

The other options - if you can't live without buttons to press - are WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get") editors; there are several different ones for Drupal, and they need to be installed as additional modules. Have a look at the results of this search: http://drupal.org/project/modules?text=wysiwyg to see what's available (or go to Download --> Modules and type "wysiwyg" in the search field for modules).
