Passport and Visa Requirements for Canada, etc.
- Entry to Canada: Official Canadian Website with Passport/Visa requirements to enter Canada. Contains other useful information as well. Basically, unless you are a Canadian or U.S. citizen, you will require a passport and depending on your nationality, you may require a Visa as well. U.S. citizens require proof of citizenship, such as an original birth certificate (i.e. embossed certificate issued by county, not a photocopy) and a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license. Link to similar information on U.S. government website summarizing the information they receive from all other governments.
- Returning to the U.S.: Official U.S. Website contains requirements for re-entry to the U.S. after visiting Canada. Basically, a passport is always sufficient, but just like Canada above, a birth certificate, expired passport or other proof of citizenship is required, plus a photo ID. See the paragraph titled Passports near the top of the linked page.
