Hi everybody,
I want to share with you this simple, but yet nice, site I built with Drupal. It's the online portafolio of the colombian graphic designer/illustrator/visual artist Margarita Acosta.

Some remarks:
For the primary menu I used textimage module in conjuction with a costume theme code.
The headers are handle by views and imagefield.
The nice thumbnail animation is just a jquery script I wrote.
The menu links are updated automattically (when a image is uploaded to the gallery for example). To achive this I wrote a module (I might publish it on Drupal.org).

Check it out and leave your comments!

Nice site.

Very nice site, very original and I very much like your illustrations as well. I'm a graphic designer (www.jndgroup.com) but I don't get much call for illustrations unfortunately.

Thank you!

I'm glad you liked the site, although I must say those illutrations aren't mine :p I built the site for a friend of mine (the girl responsible for those illustrations), who, by the way, made the layout design.
I would let her know that you liked her work.

Thanks for your comment! :)

Thank you very much.

In the post I missed something: the headers where achived using views, imagefield (for page headers as in 'About me') and taxonomy image (for category headers as in 'illustrations' or 'drawings').

BTW RTFVerterra, great work on the engineering communities you have built. Love that kind of projects.

love it!

what a nice site! it looks just like a fancy custom flash site. very non drupal looking.

"For the primary menu I used textimage module in conjuction with a costume theme code."

oh, so THATS how you use the textimage module! quite honestly most of the mods that come out i havent a clue how they are used. i really appreciate when folks use the more exotics mods and explain what they are used for.

"The headers are handle by views and imagefield."
oh, i just noticed the headers are different. does that mean you can change the headers anytime for adding in different pics?

"The nice thumbnail animation is just a jquery script I wrote."
are you a web developer? how long did you take you to learn jquery enough to do that? its excessively cool.

congrats again and looking forward to your mod.

Thanks socialtalker - what a funny name ;) -

Yes, it has an undrupalish design, not because i have anything against clean ordered content-centered designs but because this was an illustrator's site, and illustrators and designers sites tend to be more 'animated' with little details and cool decos. I guess the most reasonable way of building a designer's site (at least this type of designer) is not just displaying their work, but making the design of the site part of it. I guess people who visit such sites are highly influenced by the way the site is shown and not just by what it has.

This was a great experience to show that with the right tools you can build a fancy site without using flash, which by the way brings lots of advantages like the flexibility and expandability of drupal.

... you can change the headers anytime for adding in different pics?
Yes I can.

jquery is an incredible tools once you get the grip of it, but of course the tough part is making you're scripts cross-navigator compatible.

I love what you've done with

I love what you've done with this. I stumbled upon your post when trying to troubleshoot why I couldn't get textimage to display properly. I was almost at the point of giving up but your work inspired me to keep going to figure out the problem. Thank you! Your site is fantastic :)

Love it, love it, love it

It's an absolutely stunning site! It's so simple, but with tons of style.
I am an artist as well (geijutsuka is "artist" in Japanese, btw), but I also do Web sites (my own is unfortunately suffering from lack of attention). I was just introduced to Drupal in January and I love it except for the difficulty of all the code involved in themeing and developing (too much left-brain activity for a heavy right-brain user)... but this site you have shown us has reinvigorated me to attack my Drupal obstacles more diligently. You've proved a beautiful and visually dynamic site can be accomplished with Drupal and a "little help from my friends."
Thank you!
