Hello,
I have a little problem with Dynamic Display Block. I am using version rc6 on drupal 6.8.
The ddblock that I would like to use doesn't work. The problem is that the block doesn't show up on my website. When i add a block through everything seems normal. After i have set this configuration i went to . There i bring the dynamic display block that i just have made to the header position (i am using the Giordani template). When i save this option and then look on my frontpage, i wont see the dynamic block! The strange thing about this is that when i go back to and i choose to delete the block, the block suddenly appears even with pictures. But it is only for a while, because when i go to it disappears immediately. I hope someone can help me with this problem.

ppblaauw commentedI don't see the block in the Internet site you send. Can you place the block again in a region.
raama004 commentedI have placed the block in the region, now it is visible on the website. But this is after I have deleted the block under /site configuration/ /dynamic display block/, because else you won’t see anything.
ppblaauw commentedDid you set permissions to view the ddblock blocks for other users at: Administer > User management > Permissions?
raama004 commentedYes, i did. But the problem still remains. The block wont be vissible.
ppblaauw commentedWe have to focus first on the issue that the block is not visible when you place it in a region.
That the block becomes visible when you delete it in the ddblock configuration page is strange and another issue.
Do you have any restrictions on the block?
What is the Download method: at Admininister > Site configuration > File system?
Do you use image cache or not?
Link to site not working anymore?

raama004 commentedSorry for my late reaction. The good news is that i have solved the problem. The .htaccess file on my server, stored in the Dupal directory Files, in which my pictures for de Dynamic Dsiplay Block are saved was creating the problem as a discirbed before. Simply comment out the three lines inside the .htaccess file will solve this problem. Now Dymanic Display Block works fine. I hope this will help other people in the futere.

wwwoliondorcom commentedHello,
I have the same problem and using Giordani theme also, could it be related ?
What to do to see the easy slideshow block ?
Thanks for help.
ppblaauw commented@ wwwoliondorcom
I don't think it is theme related. It looks like it is more the permissions to view files.
what is your download method at Administer > Site configuration > File System?
(don't change it. It's just a question, read the comment under the download method)
Do you have a link to the Internet site?

Please describe the solution to this problem. Which fields (in the .htaccess) do I need to comment out?

I think raama004 means the three lines in the .htaccess file in the directory sites/default/files.
I don't think this is the right solution ( see first line)
For you the same question: What is your download method at Administer > Site configuration > File System?

rajaoa commentedHello ,
Thanks for a fantastic job done on this module. I thinks it is one of the coolest modules ever and it is very practical in a usability sense. I am using ac equally cool Theme called Arthemia. (I think ur module and this theme should win this years award) my site is. www.ohmeslogistics.com/aau. Unfortunately nothing seems to be working. i have been through all the bug complaints and reports, have imported views and content type files, worked on the pre-processor,---- but my regions are unable to display anything :( . What could the problem be?
I noticed that after going through the process the ff was noticed:
1. The template.php file was not totally cohrently coloured in Dreamweaver.(I removed the <?php > tag) from the txt file.
2. The Block module has two blocks after importing views and cck files and creating instances they are-
(a) News item slideshow and (b) ddblock-News item slideshow - could this be a problem?
I have attached a screen shot of the homepage and region.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME, I DONT WANT TO BE BEHIND SCHEDULE ON THIS PROJECT!!! :(

First of all, I want to say 'dankjewel' for your great module. It looks amazing.
Unfortunately I face the same problem. I am sure it has nothing to do with permissions. When I delete the block, the slide show appears. :-( Is this problem solved yet? If not, I really want to help solving it.

carolynz commentedI'm having the same issue of the dynamic display block disappearing after I log out of the admin. I also have checked all resources to fix this problem with no success. Please HELP!
The problem is that the slideshow shows up while logged in as "admin" then disappears once logged out. However, when I recreate the ddblock and put it in the region it is visible temporarily in the logged out stage... but any change to the configure, ie image height/width or updating of images makes it disappear again. I have reinstalled all the files several times and cannot get the slideshow to stay on the front page.

This is Raja, I think the person above has the same problem as i do about not having DDBlock showing- My 3 small blocks appear when i am logged in as admin , but the main box doesnt appear. If im logged out isee no DDblock at all except for a grey Box (empty) that occupies the area of the DDBlock.
Thanks- still working on it.

ppblaauw commented@Raja
Sounds like a permission issue.
You need to set view permissions for the dynamic display block module to anonymous
When you have the content permissions submodule from CCK enabled you also need the give permissions for the fields used with the dynamic display block slideshow.
Hope this helps you further, please let me know.
andtokyo commented"When you have the content permissions submodule from CCK enabled you also need the give permissions for the fields used with the dynamic display block slideshow."
This solution is confirmed for my setup. Attached is a screenshot of the "anonymous user" permissions that were required for un-authenticated users to see the slideshow.
Hey man, thanks.
ppblaauw commentedTo all: Maybe a cause of the issue for some of you.
Please state in your posts if you use a WYSIWYG editor.
When you have a WYSIWYG editor installed make sure you disable it for the fields in the dynamic display block module configuration. E.g. the field for the Custom jQuery Cycle Plugin Settings.
If you don't disable the WYSIWIG editor for this field, it maybe puts a character like
in this field.
I hope someone can confirm this.
21cls commentedI'm trying to just create a simple slide show with the DDBlock module, so i think that means that i necessarily need the Custom jQuery Cycle plugin, though i do have it running. i understand what you are talking about with the whole " " thing because i have encountered that before with an unrelated project. i've look over all the above posts and none of the suggestions that have been made seem to be working for me. The DDBLock only displays when it gets deleted as well. There has to be something that gets done during the creation process that is different than the tutorial.
ppblaauw commented@21cls Do you have a link to the Internet Site where the ddblock slideshow is enabled?
Also to others with this issue. If you have a link to your Internet site where the ddblock slideshow is enabled, add it here.

bcobin commentedI have the same problem with the block not appearing, although I can't say if my problem has anything to do with some of the issues here (or example, I don't have a WYSIWYG editor installed.) I've carefully checked the documentation and have been working on this for two days in the hopes of using this great module!
As a BTW, I don't see any permissions for filefield on my system, although it is installed properly. And I'm using the Garland theme for testing to eliminate some variables. I've downloaded both jquery.cycle.all.min.js and jquery-easing-1.1.1.js and placed them in the js folder (as well as in the main folder, as specified in the INSTALL.txt file) and checked to see that the drupal_add_js statement is in the module (the INSTALL.txt instructions are to add below line 26, which I assume pertains to an earlier version of the module); in any event, I've done my best to sort through the issues and I'm stumped.
With Cycleblock selected, nothing appears. With Default selected, I see the content displayed as a list, basically. So I think there may be a problem with the javascript. Any ideas?
Thanks for a great module and all your work in documenting it - very much looking forward to being able to use it! Thanks much for any help you can give me...
Slight update: Since I posted this, I did a minimal fresh install from scratch to eliminate possible module conflicts. At first, I only saw the block title and no debug output, once I cleared all cached data, I saw the debug output and no block title - in other words, the block does not output at all. This is the same behavior as described above.
I'm using latest version of all contrib modules with 6.13. Can't think of what the problem may be. Hoping someone can shed some light on this!
Anyway, here's the debug output:
And here's the modified Garland template.php:
ppblaauw commented@bcobin
Your preprocess functions and the result of the debug lines look ok.
The slideshow should appear.
Do you have a link the site you use?
Also don't have much suggestions what the problem could be.
If you don't have a link, can you attach the source code of the page.
bcobin commentedThanks SO much for getting back - I've been going out of my mind!
I will send you a link to the site - feel free to do whatever you like; this is just a test bed I've set up only for the purposes of getting to the bottom of the problem. Let me know if there are any modules you'd like me to install (or versions thereof) and I'll be happy to do so.
(I just now installed and enabled Views Slideshow - no difference.)
The link will only work if my computer is on - you can also shoot me an email to let me know if you need anything. I'll keep this thread updated so others can share in the knowledge joy.
Thank you thank you! Looking forward to tracking the problem down and using this great module!
Wound commentedIn my case, the content of the block is shown as expected for a new view block and disappears after a few changes in the settings of the instance.
My site is http://smoklang.rohton.de. You will find an empty dark grey bar on the top of the right column where a slideshow of the newest pictures should be running instead.
The source of the image is a view block containing an unordered list of the img-fields from image-nodes, filtered by "contains new content" and "published or admin". Access is by policy.
Could it be, that there is a text encoding problem or something else that might change properties unexpectedly when writing to the database? The database is MySQL 5.0.51 (UTF8_general_ci). Issues like that like to hide behind such system dependent stuff.
Ah, and another dependency! The PHP version is 5.2.8.
What does the "delta"-column mean in the database table for ddblock?
ppblaauw commented@bcobin
Thanks, Send you an email, will have a look at the site when it is available.
Hope we can pinpoint what causes the issue.
@Wound
Changed the issue title, to reflect more the related issues.
I don't have experience with encoding issues.
I can't replicate the issue on my servers.
The delta column is to give each block a number which is used in CSS and Javascript.
bcobin commentedMore information (see #28):
On Configure Block:
Display Method: Default - Content appears as text and images; advanced settings have no effect. No debug text.
Display Method: Cycleblock - debug text appears only if Use Advanced Settings is selected; if not selected, neither block nor debug text appear.

ppblaauw commentedSolved the issues with bcobin.
The issue here was permissions for the theme files at file system level
After giving access everything works as it should work
Other users. Please check the permissions at file system level
Comment #36
summit commentedHi,
Shouldn't there be an errormessage or logmessage then, when the permissions are not set correct?
Thanks for solving this!
Greetings, Martijn
Comment #37
ppblaauw commented@summit
When the theming system does not find a candidate template file apparently there is no error message.
I think this should be this way and is by design.
But in the case of the dynamic display block module the candidate template file is needed.
21cls commentedi have already checked the permissions, which are set to allow all users, including anonymous ones, to view the module. I set it that way inside the module when you create the DDBlock and when in the actual Drupal permissions area. So, unless its somewhere else, I'm stumped.
bcobin commentedJust to clarify: ppblaauw is talking about system-level permissions, not Drupal permissions. The template files are downloaded as a .zip archive, and, I believe, unzipped files don't "remember" the system level permissions. In my case, the template files (in [yourtheme]/custom/modules/ddblock) were set to "no access," hence, no display. Once permissions were set to "read and write," the block appeared.
Yet another reason to always use the .tar format when compressing files.
21cls commentedOh ok, i didn't understand that for a second. Anyways, i changed the file permissions on both the module files and the files where the images are, but this still didn't fixed my problems.
bcobin commentedDid you check the permissions for the individual template files? ([yourtheme]/custom/modules/ddblock - set read and write permissions for all the files and folders within that folder).
Check that and then try clearing the cache on the Performance page.
bcobin commentedOn #37:
Actually, I don't think that's true. In my test installation I tried moving the template files to ascertain whether or not they were in the right place and the system immediately threw the following message:
include(./themes/garland/custom/modules/ddblock/ddblock-cycle-pager-content.tpl.php) [<a href='function.include'>function.include</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /Users/[localhost]/sandbox/ddblock/includes/theme.inc on line 1020.In the case of a permission problem (which is what was happening here), one would be expected to see "Permission Denied" - this is the usual behavior and has been helpful to me many times in other cases.
21cls commentedI changed all of the permissions at the folder level and had then applied it to all of the corresponding sub folders and files.
ppblaauw commented#42
The file you mention (ddblock-cycle-pager-content.tpl.php) is the overriden template (tpl.php) file of the module which is needed to find other candidate template files in the theme.
Maybe when it is still in cache that this overridden file is used and you remove it, the error will be shown.
You see me using maybe, because I also don't know all ins and outs of the theming and caching functionality in Drupal.

Some of the issues in this thread are not related. In your case you are using the basic slideshow options of the dynamic display block module. Others use the advanced options.
It's easier to answer issues when I know more about the steps done to get the functionality and explain what is different from what you expect.
Some questions I have:
What option do you use to get the content for the basic slideshow? (images from image folder)
What is the path of your image folder?
What is the setting in the configuration page for the image folder?
What is your download method for images. (private or public)
Are you using Image cache or not?
Please can you answer the questions, so I can help you better.
21cls commentedok, here we go...
1) What option do you use to get the content for the basic slideshow? (images from image folder) i use an images folder, not a content type.
2) What is the path of your image folder? /knowledge_base/sites/default/files/ddblock
3)What is the setting in the configuration page for the image folder? The only things that are in the image folder settings area are as follows
Image folder path - sites/default/files/ddblock
Number of images - 3
4) What is your download method for images. (private or public) i just downloaded some test images from Google Images
5) Are you using Image cache or not? i have Image cache on the system but I'm not currently using it.

Thank you for sending the additional information
The image folder path in the configuration page is relative to the system file path, which is by default sites/default/files, so your setting in the configuration page should be: ddblock instead of sites/default/files/ddblock.

ppblaauw commentedI see in the source code that the timeout setting is: 0 which means the slideshow does not cycle automatically.
The speed setting is also 0, better to set this to 500.
You need to set the timeout to e.g.: 7000 (7 seconds) and the speed to: 500 (1/2 second) in the configuration page of the ddblock slideshow.
Hope this helps you further, please let me know.
Even Dawn commentedHello, yes your advice in #64 did help display the slideshow, thanks very much!
There are no thumbnails or pager options showing in the dynamic display block yet, and I am only able to see the block generated by the each individual new_items content type instead of the multiple_image_set in the node_gallery I have created...
This may have something to do with the WYSIWYG editor when I past in the php code for the node, do you know how I can disable it for this post?
I am doing my best to understand how this module is working as it seems like the best example of an interactive gallery I have ever seen- well done for all the good work!

This thread is already long with several unrelated issues (not useful for other users anymore).
Posting different issues in separate posts makes them more useful for other users.
Can you clear the cache at administer > site configuration > performance
Can you attach the template.php file and the result of the drupal_set_message lines when uncommenting them in the preprocess functions.
Do you have a link to the Internet Site or can you attach the page source of the page with the ddblock slideshow.
Please provide the information in the new issue, so I can help you better.

linitrex commentedPROBLEM:
I do install a new Drupal.
Then I do install and enable the modules needed.
I create the Content type and the view by importing files from
Export_files_V1.6.zip
and copy/paste the functions to the zen theme tamplate.php with the proper
theme name replacement.
I follow all the steps from the documentation.
When I create a ddblock from /admin/settings/ddblock and place it in the
right region from admin/build/block it does not appear.
When I go back to admin/settings/ddblock and delete the block it
surprisingly appears and displays correctly in the proper region although
it should not appear at all because it is deleted.
When I go to admin/build/block again the block disappears and never shows
again.
So the only way to show a ddblock is to make it and then delete it!
SOLUTION:
Just solved the problem!!!
When I import the Content type, by default the Nodes created are
unpublished. When I published the nodes it is ok.

dcoder commentedI had this problem with DDBlocks and anonymous users -the slideshow didn't show up for this role-. In my case was the permissions for the imagecache module. I used an imagecache for the slideshow pics and I forgot to set "view imagecache slideshowimage" (in your case can be another name) besides the DDBlock permission. Hope this could be useful for some people.

hondaman900 commentedI had this problem and eventually found my very simple solution (after much frustration trying all of the other suggestions above).
I had developed a site on my localhost Windows system. When I deployed on a hosted Linux/Apache account the now-case-sensitive reference to the location of the directory holding my carousel images became a crucial factor. DDB was looking for images/portfolio, but the folder I had FTP'd during deployment was images/Portfolio. The Windows localhost site (under the Aquia distribution) didn't care about this case difference, but the live site did and the Dynamic Display Block effectively "dissappeared" as a result.
Hope this helps someone else with this particular version of the issue.

anujosh commentedI have a similar problem.. The cycleblock won't display but default shows as a list.(the slideshow was working before perfectly) I tried to set permissions to the custom/modules/ddblock but no luck.
the site is http://www.itforchange.net. Any suggestions? It is quite urgent.
