Anyone have the "Front End Drupal : Designing, Theming, Scripting" book? I like online tutorials, but I also do well learning from books. Looks like this book is new, and doesn't have any reviews yet. I'm not familiar with the author, but the description of the book sounds good.

Was wondering if anyone has it and what they thought of it, or if they have other good Drupal 6.x Theming books they'd recommend. (I have the "Using Drupal" book, and love it, but want something more geared towards theming)

This is the book I'm talking about:

Here's a review: http://rocktreesky.com/book-review-front-end-drupal.

The reviewer says: "Overall, a great book, jam-packed with lots of learning."

Thanks for the link to that review. And after reading that the review is Addison Berry, author of my current favorite "Using Drupal" book, I believe she has sold me on the book. So I'll be placing my order soon and will post back what I (as kind of a Drupal newbie) think of it.

I ordered it the 26th from amazon.co.uk. They suggest that it's supposed to be dispathed by the 12th of May at the latest. Meanwhile the shop around the corner already has it in stock and I can't cancel. Bummer.

So how do you like the book?

How much did you know about making themes before and after the book?

I have this book and have found it very useful for learning the theming side of Drupal. All the resources I had found prior to this book were either from a content editor's perspective and didn't get far enough into the technical bits to actually be useful or were written for developers and got into too much programming and detail for me to understand it all. I find this book strikes a happy medium while staying focused on theming.

Since the site I'm working on was already pretty far along in its development by the time this book was released, a fair amount of the material was re-hash for me, but I still found really useful information that I hadn't seen before! It was nice to see everything I had been guessing at by process of trial and error spelled out in print with clear steps for how to do things. I wish I'd had this book when I started out! The online documentation "Theming Guide" is really useful, but for some of my questions I found myself chasing flying forum threads and wallowing around in blog posts and wiki pages trying to find recommended ways of achieving some common stuff. This book really would have pointed me in the right direction in terms of what to look for to find those more obscure answers.

I highly recommend this book - it's as friendly as "Using Drupal" is but with more in-depth theming-oriented content.

Thanks for the review. I still haven't gotten around to buying it, but it is definitely on my "to buy" list.
