Madz: New theme for my blog

I am using a new theme for my blog.

Please let me know what you think about this theme. Especially IE users since I have not tested it in IE much.

Thank you. Have a nice day.

Nice use of negative space

Nice use of negative space and color! Feels very fresh. The only thing I would do is add some really subtle gradients to the title and block title areas, just to give it a little more "flair" but keeping in the style of your design.

Another buzzword for me

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions. I really didn't know I was using negative space (didn't even know what it meant. Now I have another buzzword to throw around :-)

I will definitely consider adding subtle gradients. Problem is that I practically know nothing of graphics design. I don't know how to make gradients or for that matter anything else using any image editing tool.

However for this theme I am also scouting for some simple, smart looking icons to place at strategic places. Do you know of any free (preferably GPLed or CC) icon packs? I just visited you site and liked with the way you use a simple layout, colours and big fonts.

If you're interested in

If you're interested in making gradients I could explain the basics, just contact me. Here are a couple of places that have icons:

I'd take a look around linux desktops like Gnome or KDE for icon sets. Thanks for checking out my site! I've also designed and maintain Sonic Heart, Coacalina and CreativeType.

Tango Icons

http://tango-project.org/ under a share-alike license. You'll have to do something about the background (the icons are alpha channel transparant). Eg. using The Gimp (a slighty dated book about the gimp, free at http://gimp-savvy.com.

When your problem is solved, please post a follow-up to the thread you started.

thanks for the pointers

@chromatic and Heine: Thanks guys. The sites that you mentioned have icon packs that appeal to me. However now I am wondering whether I should use icons at all. The blog looks quite pretty even without any icons. But I am seriously considering having a site logo at least.

In case I am a little busy nowadays so adding icons to my theme will have to wait.

Thanks once again. Have a nice day.

The silk icon pack also looks very attractive.

good blog theme

Well done Varun. I really like the way you have used the screen. I'm not too mad on the colour scheme but it's very simple and very focussed on making your blog very easy to read.

I tried it in IE 6(Windows) by the way and it looks great.

good work

Dub

Thanks.

Thanks. Coming from a Drupal guru your comment means a lot to me.

What improvements would you suggest in the colour scheme?

Am glad to know that it looks OK in IE. Problem occurs when browser window is not very wide. The sidebar drops off and appears below the main content. Will look into how to tackle this issue.

Now I can rest assured that there are at least 3 people (you, chromatic and me) who like this theme :-) Yay!
