It seems like the best direction for this functionality is to work with the already written Link module which provides allows the creation of URL node types using CCK.

The only functionality missing will be the Bookmarklet which will be a great addition to the existing Link module. Why not save yourself a bunch of time and just add the bookmarklet functionality to Link?
