Hey Everyone,
I need to build a CMS that utilizes all of the following and my boss is pressing me for answers. Can drupal offer:
(1) Universal User Integration - Like the ability to use 1 username and password and carry it across all of the added features (like wordpress and forum etc.)
(2) Forum comparable to SMF
(3) Wordpress integration or something like it
(4) Custom skin/template based on registered user's profile. Like If I check the box "Freshwater Fish" in my profile, can I have it automatically enable my "Freshwater fish" template/skin?
(5) Can Drupal handle MASS traffic. Like 1.5Tb of data transfer per month, or does it get laggy.
(6) Is there a community feature or extension like facebook?
(7) Are there any Anti-Hacker or security benefits to using Drupal?
Thanks,
Dave

1. Not sure, what you are
1. Not sure, what you are looking for here. Drupal offers forums and blogs and of course. You can use all Drupal features with the same account. If you want to integrate Drupal and Wordpress on the same platform (even though, I cannot image for what purpose), you'd have to use something like openID to make both accessible by the same account/password.
2. Never used SMF. Personally, I'm not too happy with the Drupal forum support. It does the job, but you need to install half a dozen extra modules, before it will look remotely like what most users will recognize as a forum (what you see here is more or less the out of the box forum. I'd suggest running a test install with the advanced_forum module to figure out, if Drupal suits your needs here).
3. Erm, no. Drupal has a blogging module itself. There is no point in integrating with Wordpress.
4. Have a look at http://themegarden.org/drupal6/ Themes can be sidewide or per user.
5. Depends on your webserver and the amount of modules you install. Have a look here: http://drupal.org/about and here: http://drupal.org/cases
6. Not sure what you mean, but Drupal works nicely as a portal system. See ... uhm ... http://drupal.org
7. As compared to what?
Point by point...
1. You can, but it would be much easier if you just forgot about WordPress if you are already installing Drupal. Integrating a different platform always results in inconsistencies and reduced site performance. Drupal can do all the functions of WordPress, and then some. (Or maybe WordPress these days gets thrown around as a generic term for blogs, like xerox for photocopying, or kleenex for tissues.)
2. Drupal does forums well right out of the box.
3. Again, instead of integrating WordPress, just use the same functionality readily available in Drupal.
4. Users under their own User Edit page can pick their own theme. Drupal administrator can install new themes at any time and they become immediately available when enabled to users.
5.Drupal can handle traffic, and there are multiple ways to scale it and optimize it, based on content type and usage.
6. http://drupalsn.com is a social network built on Drupal. You want to open up your social network possibilities more? Read http://www.packtpub.com/build-social-networking-website-with-drupal-6/book
7. Compared to.....?

going there?
I would bet that, if Drupal can't handle that now, that in 7.0 they are aiming for that. There are some serious people working on 7.0
