I've seen JQuery menu, it creates a block for several standard navigation menu's. An important one is missing: this is the book block navigation menu. There is another module that is called advanced book blocks (from: Aaron Hawkins) but this one can not create / configure a block that only shows the child pages of the current open book.

I wrote both modules, but this is an issue for the advanced book blocks issue que. I could do what you are talking about but I haven't had the time lately.
