I had a need to see the comments on the 'edit' tab along with the rest of the Workflow items on that tab. It didn't make sense to me that the comment entry form is there, but the comment history isn't.

It is possible that it is meant to be there and it isn't working in my instance, or perhaps there is another method that someone is supposed to use to view the comments from a reviewer to notify an author of changes needing to be made, however I don't see a better way.

My conclusion is that putting the comments on the form where an author and reviewer would come across it in the normal course of going through the 'Edit' tab to make their changes would be the best solution.

I have included my fairly rough patch for review. Any help making this a better patch would be really appreciated.

I agree that this would be more useful than having the comments on the workflow tab where the author of the content doesn't see it in a normal workflow setup.
Additionally, it would be helpful to have the comments available as to insert in an email, perhaps via a token, to the author.

Since this request is over 2 years old, I'm going to assume a solution was found or you've moved on. If not, please get updated to the latest versions of all modules and see if things have fixed themselves. If not, open a new ticket for the Drupal 7 version and I'll be glad to look at it.
