I developed my site on WinXP - can I go for Linux hosting?

I developed my site using WinXP.

I'm looking for a good host - but, do I go for Windows hosting or Linux hosting?

If I go for Linux hosting, will my site [that is developed on WinXP] work on Linux host? Some hosts claim that Drupal installation scripts - what does that mean?

Thanks for your time, if you answer, that is :-)

Don't warry..!

I developed my site too using WinXP, and it is working in linux hosting, don't warry about the difference.

If you've already developed

If you've already developed on Win, you've already done the hard part.
Linux hosts are better supported. It's going the other direction that occasionally hurts.
Don't bother with the 'one click installs' though, they may not be compatible with exactly what you've done, they seldom are designed with off-line development in mind.. Just ignore them and follow the install instructions as usual.

thanks.. I think once I buy the host and dirty my hands..

Once I buy the host and dirty my hands, then only I'll understand what's involved.

Thanks for the reply, guys!

WIMP-WAMP-LAMP

Windows XP is only the OS of the server; the webserver software is also a very important component of the stack. There is a huge diffference between WindowsXP-Apache-MySQL-PHP (WAMP) and WindowsXP-IIS-MySQL-PHP (WIMP). If you built your site on a WAMP stack, it is usually very easy to switch to LAMP.

If I have a choice, I always

If I have a choice, I always go with linux.

You should be good to go (developing on Win and hosting on Linux), just watch out for the little differences.
exmpl. naming conventions; on windows Pic.jpg and pic.jpg are the same file , on linux 'case' matters, Pic.jpg and pic.jpg are different files.

Good Luck.

Hosting

Let me know what you decided do for your hosting solution.

I am in the same boat as well and considering Windows hosting.

Better to keep the two environment same.

There should be no problem

There should be no problem for your site works on Linux server, and actually it will give your site better support, from reliability, performance to price.

Want to setup a Drupal site, find the Best Drupal Hosting for it now.

Many people (as well as I) installed and developed a Drupal site in Windows environment using WAMP/ XAMP on the local host, and later hosted their sites / or simply uploaded on to Linux Hosting. It doesn't make any difference.

It should makes a better sense to use Linux hosts as they are cheaper and most of the Hosting service providers are offering the Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP environment these days!

Good luck.

In my Opinion

In my opinion, it will not make any difference whether you made it in WinXP or a Linux system. What it counts more is which technology you have used to develop that, like; if you have used ASP .net then i suggest to go for Window's hosting server, but if you have developed it using PHP and MY SQL then i suggest to go for LINUX hosting server.

My recommendation is going

My recommendation is going with a linux web hosting provider. Not only are they cheaper, but they are more reliable and come with a ton more features.
