I have organic groups and biblio module enabled and have Biblio item set as a standard group post. What I'd like to be able to do is to add a secondary tab under /biblio list (next to year, title, type author) which shows categorized list based on groups.

I tried to use views to no avail. In particular, the og related filters/arguments/relationships aren't available for biblio views.

How could I (as a total newbie) go about achieving this?

You might find that the latest -dev version allows you to achieve what you want using Views. You will find that biblio is no longer a "Base" type of view, rather you would create a "Node" type view and add biblio and other type fields to it.
