Hi there --
I have made some good progress in setting up a decent basic installation of mail2web in 6.10.
I installed mailhander, notifications, messaging... used default drupal mail method... and enabled mail2web.
NOTE: During the process of setting up these modules, when I had only reached the point where I had installed mailhandler, I configured and tested mailhandler and it appeared to be working fine -- I was able to successfully email to the email address and stories would be created on the portal, etc.
Now that all is set up, part of the process works and part doesn't:
-- I have the users set up to have notifications set for content type "forum topic," immediately.
-- When the users create new forum topics, and then I run cron, emails ARE sent to the subscribed users' email addresses, with the "reply above this line..." line in them.
-- However, when the users reply to those emails with some text, and I run cron, nothing arrives back in the portal comment threads. no bounces happen either.
That's my basic problem. However, a side question, possibly related: I am unclear what I should put into mail2web's "Server String for Message ID" field. you have "example.com" in your example screen. I have put localdev.net -- because the email box that is used by the mailhandler part of this setup is something@localdev.net. But I really don't understand what we are supposed to put in that "server string for message ID" field.
thanks for any help!

ignore this reply and look at the next one. I attached an incorrect screenshot to this reply (can't delete it) but the correct screenshot doc is V2, posted below. Thanks --eric

SORRY -- please ignore (and delete) the previous screenshot document I uploaded, it is inaccurate and misrepresents what I have done. Please use this "version 2" document instead. If I can find a way to delete that other comment, I will. Here is the real screenshot doc.

Hi Eric,
There are several things to check for:
- Check in admin/reports/dblog for any errors or messages after you run cron to collect the messages
- Check that the reply-to address is correct in the email when replying
- Try replying with different email clients (what email client are you using?) to see if you can get it to work (try gmail, yahoo, etc.)
The server string is sent out in the notification headers, and then checked for when the person replies; it is an extra security check. If you put in "example.com", and then some notifications get sent out, and then change the server string setting to "foo.com" and someone tries to respond to the messages that were sent out before you changed the server string, those messages will be denied, because the server string in the email header will no longer match the server string setting on the site.
Hopefully the above three checks will help narrow down the issue a little further. Let me know how it goes.

Hooray! You nailed it. I has set the darn thing to be sending to the wrong one of my mailboxes. it works... thanks so much.
now I can go about looking at the way it actually appears -- textonly vs. html, the cleaning thing, etc. thx again!

Switch to mailcomment project. Mail2web is now known as "mailcomment" due to a trademark issue with the name mail2web.
