Importing a Joomla user base into Drupal... passwords work?

I will need import the user tables from Joomla into Drupal. At this point, I plan to use the User Import module.
However, will passwords work when crossing the sites?
If not, is there a way I can set Drupal so that the Users I am importing will need to create a new password when they first log into Drupal?

E-mail for account verification
From what I read on some of these forums, since passwords are encrypted, you cannot just straight import them into Drupal. However, when setting up the new, imported accounts, you can have Drupal notify the user on the e-mail address associated with the account with an automatically generated temporary password. The e-mail will have a verification link the recipient can click on, and can change his password upon first login.
You can also set up Drupal so visitors to your site can apply for an account, and you can
a. set Drupal up to automatically verify it by e-mail,
or
b. you must approve it manually. This gives you more control, but with a large user base, it can get overwhelming.

Right, but how do I do
Right, but how do I do that?
Lets say I get the SQL table for the Joomla user, I then put it into a CVS file, then I import it into Drupal using User Import.
How do I then get drupal to reset their passwords to a temporary one, then have drupal email them all?

I am not sure how well it works with 6.X versions, though...
